Jenny Gao is a photographer and documentarian based in New Zealand. She loves bold, complex characters and unexpected genre mashups. She aims to make work that acts as a bridge between ideologies, cultures and ages.
Her breakout short documentary Table for One as part of Loading Docs 2020 followed 57-year-old table tennis legend Chunli Li's final chance to qualify for the Olympics to cement her legacy with gold. She is now in pre-production of a coming-of-age documentary series about a group of it-kids for THREE New Zealand and in development of factual stories centred around science and technology.
Pre-pandemic, she shot photography campaigns for the tourism sector. Clients include Japan National Tourism Organisation, Samoa Tourism, G Adventures and Takiwa Tourism.
